The

According
to the AAKWCCC Chairman, Khupjang Doungel, the programme was organized and
erected the monolith to give due honour and recognition and to pay tribute to
the supreme sacrifice of those warriors, the Kuki Chiefs who fearlessly and
valiantly fought the then mightiest colonial power of the time, the British Empire
in defense of our ancestral and and freedom.

It may be
noted here that those warriors, the forefathers of the Kukis, who valiantly
fought against the British Empire for independence from 1917 to 1919 were
charged with war crimes and were sentenced to jail and subsequently exiled to
Sadiya. Nine out of the eleven charge-sheeted Kuki Chiefs were exiled here in
Sadiya.

Addressing
the gathering, CEM Gorlosa lauded the organizers and the Kuki people for such a
grand event with huge gathering. He also reminded the gathering that the Kukis
had great contribution in this Dima Hasao district. It was due to those great
Kuki warriors and other leaders the present district with Sixth Schedule to the
Constitution of India is possible for protection of tribal cultures and
languages, it was the Kukis who also defended the district from aggressive
attack of the Angami, he asserted.

“I have
also been among the struggling group once and have lived in almost all the Kuki
villages at that time. It was in the Kuki village our DHD (J) was born. DHD(J)
did not struggle only for Dimasas, but for all the tribal people living in the
district. The Kukis have been extending every possible help and have always
been maintaining good relationship with the Dimasas and others. That was why
the MoS Scheme was given first to the Kukis and I personally laid the first
foundation stone under MoS scheme. We will also work together for our better
future”, he said, applauded by the huge gathering.

Speaking
on the occasion, EM Samuel Changsan, thanked the CEM and other distinguish
guests and appealed to all for following the footsteps of the Kuki warriors by
working in their spirit so that all the people of the district, state and the
country may get the benefit of our good work.
