May 23, 2017: On Tuesday afternoon,
the NIA court gave out its final verdict on all the 14 convicts of the Rs. 1000
crore NC Hills scam. All the 14 of them were found guilty of double charges on
Monday and based on that penalties have been awarded to them. For the first
charge, Jewel Garlosa, Niranjan Hojai and Mohit Hojai have been given life
imprisonment whereas for the second charge they have been given 10 years
imprisonment.
Similarly, R H Khan and Ahshringdao
Warisa have been awarded with 10 years of imprisonment for the first charge and
12 years of imprisonment for the second charge respectively.
On the other hand, Jayanta
Kumar Ghosh, Debashish Bhattacharjee, Fazendra Hojai and Vanlalchhana have been
given 10 years of imprisonment for both the charges. However, Babul
Kemprai, Malsang Kimi, Sandip Ghosh and Karuna Saikia have been sentenced with
8 years of imprisonment for both the charges.
All the convicts will also have to
pay a fine of twenty-five thousand rupees or else they will have to spend additional
five years of imprisonment.
The accused were convicted under sections 120 (B), 16/17/20, 25 (1) (D)
of the IPC of the Arms Act.
They had been accused of siphoning off huge amounts of government
development funds to DHD (J) for procuring arms and ammunitions to wage a war
