Four days workshop on building with bamboo




Haflong, October 29: - Debojeet Thaosen, Chief Executive Member, N C Hills Autonomous Council today inaugurated a four day training workshop on “BUILDING WITH BAMBOO” from October 29 to November 1 at Conference Hall of Hotel Landmark today.
The programme has been jointly organised by the Dima Hasao Forest department, South Asia Bamboo Foundation and building Materials & Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC), New Delhi.

After the inaugural program a technical sessions was conducted,  this was largely attended by Policy makers, experts, Engineers, Government officials from forests departments, PWD, Rural Development, NGO and Development workers.
CEM Debojeet in his speech praised the endeavour of the organisers of the programme and has said that this workshop will help promote new and innovative ideas to the trainees which will further help in mass benefit of the entire district.
With n aims to promote the idea in a mass scale and familiarize the people as to the importance of Bamboo and its appropriate use with the advance techniques in construction sector particularly, Building Material Promotion and Technology Council has pioneered in the last few years by constructing bamboo based structures at several locations. The main and basic idea is bridging the gap between the traditional skills and the appropriate advanced technology. Thus, since its inception has undertaken a wide range of model demonstration construction activities for rural habitats, eco-tourism projects, pre-fabricated modular structures, community building and many other bamboos based projects to showcase and familiarize the products in strategic location of the region in association with NGOs, civil society and state governments.
So partnering with Forest Department of Dima Hasao District, N C Hills Autonomous Council, Government of Assam and South Asia Bamboo Foundation (SABF) are conducting this Training Workshop to create awareness and also create and develop local talent in the field of bamboo in housing and constructions. Experts from Building Material Technology Promotion Council (BMPTC), New Delhi Indian Plywood Research and Training Institute (IPITRI), Bangalore, SABF and local experts are presenting various technical papers. But most important is with the support of Forest Department of Dima Hasao Forest.
Hands-on practical training on various application of bamboo in constructions, treatment of bamboo and constructions practices both theory and practical will be imparted during the four days workshop. ABAMBOO TOILET will be built during the training at Ethnic Village where hands on practical training will be imparted to 20 selected artisans and crafts persons from the District in this 4 days training workshop from 29th October to 1st November.
The facilitators of the programmes were  Kamesh Salam Founder and Executive Director South Asia Bamboo Foundation (SABF), Sharad Gupta, Dy. Chief (TDE&IC) BMTPC, New Delhi, Jagadish Vengala, Scientist, IPIRTI Bangalore, Bikash Braahma, IFS, Addl. PCCF, Dima Hasao District, Haflong, A.K.Johari, IFS, Addl. PCCF Representative from o/o the PCCF & HOFF, Assam, Guwahati along with the EMs incharge F.Shylla Rupsi and D.Teron
