Unveiling Statue of Kuki Freedom Fighter Chengjapao Doungel






Haflong, August 28 :The recently erected statue of Kuki freedom fighter Late Chengjapao Doungel (Kuki) at Lamdukan, M.Tilla was unveiled by the Chief Executive Member of N.C. Hills Autonomous Council Debojeet Thaosen on 28th August 2015  in the presence of dignitaries and huge gathering general public  when they are observing the 87th Death Anniversary occasion of the freedom fighter.






In this connection, the Chief Guest CEM Thaosen, lauded the organizer Kuki Innpi Assam (KIA) for their successful endeavour and reminded the gathering saying that a number of unsung freedom fighter exist in various parts of our country;they have sacrificed for the cause of India’s freedom, which needs to be celebrated locally for recognition in national level.







Speaking on the occasion, Brig. S.P. Vishwarao CO, 22 sector Assam Rifles, Sarkari Bagan, Haflong appeal the Kuki Community to come forward and to take examples from the lifelong activities of Chengjapao Doungel who sacrificed his life for India’s freedom from the clutches of the Britishers.
President of Dimasa Apex Body JNH, Kalyan Daulagupu, in his speech recalled the historic brotherhood between Dimasa and Kuki since   time immemorial and requested the Kuki brethren for always maintain such cordial relationship and strife together for the peaceful and progress of the district.

The Chief Host Samuel Changsan EM thanked all the guests and the public for making the programme a success. He thanks especially to CEM,EMs;Brig. S.P. Vishwarao CO, 22 sector Assam Rifles and Col. R.K Singh, Assam Rifles, for their continuous support of the Kuki Community.
Earlier, KIA President S.M.Changsan and the conductor Satthang Changsan felicitated dignitaries with Kuki  shawl and mufflers. He also apologised for stopping traffic for about one hour for this programme and thanked all drivers/riders and passengers for their endurance.





A  Kuki traditional dance performed by Joujam Cultural troupe entertained all the gathering.
The programme was also attended by EM  Kulendra Daulagupu and EM  Flaming Rupsi; MAC  Devojit Bathari; Principal Secretary(N) Mukut Kemprai, Col. R.K Singh, Assam Rifles, 25 (twenty-five) Gaonbura of Kuki Villages, representatives from various organisations, dignitaries and a large number of Kuki and other communities.




Cultural function was later held at Songpijang Playground from 1PM onwards, conducted by Satthang Changsan,which started with opening prayer by Fr.Thanghao Doungel. The report on activity was given by KIA Secretary L.J.Chongloi.The book ‘Chengjapao Doungel’ was released by Chief Host of the programme, Samuel Changsan EM.

 Then, the life story of Changjapao was narrated briefly by T K Doungel, the writer and the publisher of the book, which also recorded the history of Anglo-Kuki War, Kuki rebellion against the British India 1917-1919 under the leadership of Late Chengjapao and others.

Most dignitaries delivered speeches, while other attractive items were traditional dances, traditional and modern songs, etc followed by a grand feast.
