Council Employees organize Rally on July 26 as part of its agitation for 9 months salary

HAFLONG, July 25 : In continuation of agitation, demanding immediate payment of monthly salary kept pending for more than 9 months, the N.C.Hills Autonomous Council Employees’ Union is organizing Rally on July 26, which is likely tp join by All Apex Body of all communities, Students Organizations and other Non-Government Organizations of the district as per their invitation for extending support on humanitarian ground.
The employees have been launching agitation with cease worth since July 10 last, which received public support due to Lathi Charge by the Police on July 17 last on the eve of Governor’s visit, becoming viral like situation in social media and become household talk in the district.

As such, leaders of all the Apex Body of all communities, Students Organizations and other Non-Government Organizations visited them and extended their moral support and are urging the council and the state Government for solving this salary problem permanently ( EC response is given separately).
The employees’ Union also submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Assam Banwarilal Purohit on his arrival at Haflong at Circuit House, Haflong in the evening of July 18, 2017 and urging him for release of their salary for 9 (nine) months from Oct/2016 on humanitarian ground.
The representation, vide Ref. 10039, Date 18/7/17, stated that the council employees have not received their salaries for 9 months from Oct/16 to June/17. Condition of families of council employees is very deplorable. Some employees held committed suicide and future many employees may take such step as all employees are struggling for survival hither and thither.
The memorandum mentioned that Umrangso NEEPCO is paying 6% of their profit to Assam, NEEPCO is situated within sixth schedule district of Dima Hasao (N.C.Hills) and hence, Assam Govt. should spare at least 50% of amount they received from NEEPCO annually.
According to them, there are many resources for N.C.Hills Autonomous Council to generate sufficient revenue for payment of employees salary. But due to insincerity of Autonomous Council crores of revenue especially in Forest department leaked out. The main resources of council revenue is stone, sand, lime, etc. until and unless these resources are properly managed, financial problem of the council will not be over. Now, demanding salaries for 9 months council employees union has chosen path of cease work agitation from 10/07/2017. But the council authority instead of releasing salaries had suspended 5 union leaders on 11/07/2017 to suppress the union. Therefore, “request your Excellency to take necessary step to release 9 months salaries of council employees and gratuity to retired employee’s on humanitarian ground as all employees have no capacity to survive anymore” stated its President and Secretary in the memorandum.
