Tea gardeners dhan puraskar mela held at Kopili of Umrangso





DC Devajyoti Harazika distributes sanctioned letters  


Haflong, January 5:         Tea
gardeners’ Dhan Puraskar Mela was held at children’s park, Kopili Tea Estate at
Umrangso - 18 kilo on 4th January 2017, organised by District
Administration, in association with N.C. Hills Autonomous Council and Manager,
Kopili Tea Estate, Dima Hasao district.


During the
programme, 251 numbers of bank account holders were distributed sanctioned
letters of financial incentives of Rs. 2500/- each for providing financial
incentive to the Tea Garden workers who opened bank account during the period
of demonetisation through cashless transaction. The scheme is an initiative by
the State government for financial inclusion and bringing all sections of the
people under the ambit of banking sector and cashless transaction.




               Speaking on the occasion,  Deputy Commissioner, Devajyoti Harazika wishes for a Happy New Year and thanked tea tribes for  cooperating in conducting the programme. 


                Executive
Member Debojit Bathari, who represented CEM, N.C. Hills Autonomous Council
expressed his happiness in being part of the programme. Thanking the Assam
Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal and Finance Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarmah
for launching such scheme for the financial upliftment of Tea Garden workers,
he also spoke about various plans and programmes initiated by Prime Minister Narendra
Modi, for the cause of better society, economy and health care meant for poorer
and needy sections of society of our country.


EM Bathari
stressed upon the tea gardeners for proper maintenance of the account for next
six months so that they may enjoy another instalment of financial incentives
amounting the same. He also encouraged the remaining tea gardeners to open bank
accounts for availing such financial facilities from the government from time
to time.


Earlier, the programme began with
jhumur nritya and sautali nritya by the gardeners after which the guests were
felicitated with phulam gamocha. A brief speech was delivered by ADC, Vikram
Dev Sarmah regarding the objective of the programme by the government.


The programme was also attended
by Subrata Thaosen, EM, N.C. Hills Autonomous Council, Haflong, Amal Bindu
Barman, Director of SBI, RTC, G.P Bhatt, Subedar Major, 43 Assam Rifles, L.C
Nath, Manager in-charge , Kopili Tea Estate, Abdul Mazid, DTO, Dima Hasao,
Dipak Mander, Manager, Langpi Dehangi Rural Bank, K. Deori, Manager, Bank of
India, J.K. Pandit, SBI representative, S.K Paul, i/c Sangbar Development
Block, Sonali Hojai, Labour Inspector, District Child Protection officer,
officers and staff of District Administration, media persons and a large number
of tea garden workers.
