12 hours Bandh concludes successfully at 5pm today

11,2019 : The 12 hours  Dima Hasao
Bandh  called  by the Hills Tribe Students’ Association  from 5am to 5pm concluded successfully at 5pm
today.


The bandh,
called   in protest against the
Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016, the Schedule Tribes  Amendment Bill 2019 (ST status to Six advance
communities of Assam), and Scrapping of BLT Accord Clause 8.






 The bandh was totally successful affecting
normal life in all areas of the district since the HTSA comprises almost all
the students organizations of this hill tribes, such as Dimasa Students’ Union
(DSU), Hmar Students’ Association (HSA), Kuki Students’  Organization (KSO), All Biate Students’
Association(ABSA), Hrangkhol Students’  Association (HKSA), Khasi Students’ Union
(KSU) and Karbi Students’ Association (KSA).


Most of the offices
remain closed, vehicles off the road and business establishments down theie
shutters during the bandh. However, there was no report of any untoward
incidences during the bandh.


In Retzawl village
(around 15 km away from Haflong) protesters stops several vehicles loaded with
goods and also burnt tyres. However no major incident was reported and the
vehicles were allowed to go after 5pm. The bandh remain peaceful and no
untoward incidents were reported so far in the district.


Earlier, the HTSA held a meeting at Ladies welfare
organization Hall, Haflong on February 9,2019, and after discussing about the
Present protest in the state regarding Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 and
other issues decided to call the Bandh, informed HTSA President,  Pramith Sengyung.
