Five days ‘Jatinga festival’ concludes








In a bid
to promote awareness among the locals and to promote tourism, the five day
‘Jatinga Festival’ in which the culture, tradition, food, craft and attire
depicting the ethnicity of the district will be highlighted, was inaugurated at
Jatinga on October 21, 2019 and was concluded on 24th October 2019.


Organised
under the umbrella of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, with active
participation of the Dima Hasao Forest, Culture& Publicity, PWD, I&PR
and Tourism departments, the event was held for five days i.e from 20th October
till 24th October, below the tri junction brindge, NH-54 at Jatinga which is just
15 mins drive


 from Haflong main town.




The
festival was inaugurated by the Chief Executive Member,  of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council,
Debolal Gorlosa Chief Executive Member, in the evening in presence of many
dignitaries and guests present.


The  CEM urged the people to love the nature which
has been God gifted and that people in Dima Hasao should consider themselves
fortunate for living in such traditionally and culturally rich district as compared
to many others. Sharing his concern about the decrease in flocking of migratory
birds in Jatinga as compared to past years, Debolal Gorlosa urged the people to
be compassionate towards the winged guests and stop killing of these birds. He
also spoke in length to maintain cleanliness and requesting people to make the
place tourist friendly.


Chief
Conservator of Forest, Muanthang Tungnung, IFS, gave an insight about the
unique phenomenon known as  ‘bird
suicides’ and explained a factual approach to it. He further stated that at the
end of the monsoon months especially on moonless and foggy dark nights between
6 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., birds from the northern skies start to descend as they
are attracted to lights. It is the moral duty of the people to send off these
guests safe without causing any harm.


Jatinga
valley marks the pathway for thousands of flocks of the birds every year during
the period from September to November and for this strange occurrence noticed,
this place has become of International repute.


MLA BB
Hagjer and DC and PS Amitabh Rajkhowa also spoke in length about the need to
cherish the richness of nature this dist has been bestowed such as the unique
phenomenon of the birds in Jatinga has helped Jatinga get its geographical
identification in the International Map.


Principal
Secy (N), NCHAC in the begning of the programme gave a warm welcome speech
to all present and gave a brief about the five days even and also spoke on the
objective of organizing this event.
