Haflong, September 4:- A joint review meeting for accessing progress of works under National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and North East Frontier Railways (Construction) was organised by the Dima Hasao district administration at the conference hall of Haflong Circuit House today.
The high level meeting was attended by Debojeet Thaosen, CEM of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, Shantanu Thakur, Commissioner, Hills & Barak Valley Division, Barun Bhuyan, Deputy Commissioner of Dima Hasao, Project Director of NHAI, PIU, General Managers of all the construction companies involved and officials from Food Corporation of India, Guwahati.
The meeting chaired by NCHAC, CEM Debojeet Thaosen discussed the areas of problem in the context of imposition of Railway Mega Block to be on effect from October 1, next. Ensuring supply of food grains, transportation and for the smooth movement of traffic was the basic concern of the discussion.
Commissioner, Hills & Barak Valley Division, Shantanu Thakur discussed at length to trace out the problems and solve collectively regarding the construction of East-West corridor road NH-54-E by NHAI and Lumding –Silchar route gauge conversion by North East Frontier Railways. He also raise point on smooth movement of traffic through Lumding –Silchar road during mega block effecting Dima Hasao, Barak Valley and neighbouring states.
Project Director of NHAI, PIU Nagaon stated in his presentation that the 48 kms out of 67 kms of black topped permanent work between Lumding –Maibong highway for heavy traffic movement during mega block has been completed, others 5 kms out of 19 kms of 2 lane highway with hard crust is to be completed by September and in the rest 14 kms diversions and existing roads with hard curst of 5.5/ 7m width in 7 km has been black topped and work in balance 7kms is in progress.
The representatives of the Railway (construction) expressed that completion of 90% of works so far and the remaining 10% shall be completed within the stipulated period of six months Mega Block.
Stating his apprehension regarding the progress of work of the construction companies, CEM Thaosen stressed that the people of the district should not be strangled with inadequate food supply and inconvenience due to the slow phase of work undertaken. He has assured of all necessary co-operations from Council as sought during implementation for completion of work.
Deputy Commissioner Barun Bhuyan also presented the critical issues relating to land acquisition. Issues relating to security of the workers and officials during the progress of work have also been ensured.
Towards the end of the meeting representative of NHAI assured of completion of construction work within the time frame of mega block and has also sought the district administration to support them by providing security personals for driving out the fear among their workers due to various incidents in the area. The General Manager, Food Corporation of India from Guwahati also ensured of their readiness to carry out transportation of food grains during the mega block.
Other officials present in the meeting were Superintendent of Police, Dima Hasao, Co-107-Territorial Army (11GR) , Secretary Revenue Dept, Divisional Railway Manager, Area Manager of FCI from Silchar and Nagaon, ADCs, General Manager of all involved construction companies and media persons.
